Lily Xu is knitwear designer and artist based in New York. Originally from Sydney, Australia she moved to the US to pursue further studies at the MFA Fashion and Society Program at Parsons School of Design.
Lily’s design practice is highly driven by colour, materiality and innovation within knitwear. Her work often explores identity and culture, documenting different narratives and experiences through the form of garment making. In this way, by materialising emotions in a tangible form, Lily hopes to hand craft garments that are meaningful and allow people to connect with clothing in a deeper way.
In exploring and developing her design practice, Lily was drawn back to what had originally led her to pursue design; painting, being hands on and playing with colour. Lily’s paintings range from abstract, hand moulded meditative pieces to capturing the details and quiet moments of the everyday.
